Old Dogs New Tricks

Some say a dog is mans best friend for me a hot dog is my best friend. When you need something quick and easy you can't beat a hot dog,as a snack or at a bbq everyone loves a good "dog".With that being said after years of the same old ketchup, mustard and or relish on your hot dog you have to try something new.
Recently I had the idea to experiment with my "dogs".I'll give you 2 examples,1st one I call the "Fiesta Dog" a sausage covered with pico de gallo, guacamole, jalapeño peppers and shredded cheese. After trying it my wife said thats the only way she wants a hot dog from now on.The second one I tried and still don't have a name for it yet,I split a smoked sausage down the middle and filled it with diced onions, sweet hot mustard, french fries, cheese and chilli. It didn't look pretty but boy did it taste good.
So the next time you're in the mood for a hot dog, teach that old dog some new tricks. Stay Geeky and Hungry my friends.

Finally Wonder Woman is in a movie....Kinda..

The day alot of us have been waiting for is finally here,Wonder Woman has a movie!!..kinda.
It was announced that in the up coming movie Batman vs Superman,Wonder Woman will appear also and cast to play the amazon princess is Gal Gatdot actress most know from the Fast and Furious movies. The internet went crazy with geek rage and I count myself among the angry fanboys. When most of us think of Wonder Woman we think of a tall strong "well built" warrior woman and Ms Gatdot doesn't look even close to the part.I'm not a casting agent but I thought Gina Carano would be good for the role, she's a former MMA cage fighter and starred in the action movie Hayewire and also appeared in the last Fast and Furious movie.Ms Carano has the build and  has shown that she can handle fight/action scenes to play the warrior princess . Actresses have been known to change their appearance for movie roles so maybe by the time the movie comes out in 2015 Gal Gato will look the part . I've been wrong before about movie casting like Heath Ledger for the Joker and Ann Hathaway  as Catwoman to name a few so here's hoping that Gal Gatdot proves me wrong.

So I ask my fellow geeks to be patient and lets see how this works out until then stay geeky and hungry my friends.

Thor 3 "Blood Brothers?"

If you haven't watched Thor:The Dark World stop reading this and go out and see the movie. The last scene of the movue has Thor turning down his farther Odin's offer to take his seat as ruler of Asgard and asking permission to stay on earth which to his surprise Odin accepts. As Thor leaves it is revealed that Odin is really his adopted brother Loki in disguise who sits in the King's seat and says "thank you" and gives that Loki smile. The movie leaves us with tge image of Loki finally getting what he's wanted to be king of Asgard with Thor on earth with no idea what's going on.
As soon as I left the theater I thought of "Thor&Loki:Blood Brothers" a 4 part comicbook series by Rob Rodi and Esad Ribic in 2004,basically the story is how Loki becomes ruler of Asgard but after dealing with the day to day affairs of being king he realize that its not so good being the king.
If you ever get a chance there's a animated version on Netflix you can check it out or pick up the graphic novel. The powers that be have done a great job so far with the Marvel movies so weather or not they go this route with the next Thor movie is to be seen.
So until then enjoy the up coming movies and stay geeky and hungry my friends.

Fowl and Fourty aka Chicken and Beer

Through time there have been some historic combos like Adam&Eve,the Wright brothers,Abbott&Costallo,Batman&Robin,Jordon&Pippen,Stan Lee & Jack Kirby but none can compare to the greatest combo of all time...Chicken&Beer!!
Since moving down here to Chattanooga I've been asking about a good "chicken spot" I mean it is the south, then one day a coworker told me about a place called Champys he gave me the address downtown and said it was the best chicken in town.I went by after work and found this little shack in the middle of downtown Chattanooga and my instincts said the food here had to be good. The atmosphere has a real "hole in the wall" feel with blues music playing and old albums and license plates hanging on the walls.Champys has only been open for 4 years but its become one of the most famous places in town because of the atmosphere, food and it's the only restaurant that sures 40.oz beers.Yes I said 40.oz beers of almost any brand and you'll see anyone from college kids to grandparents with one in front of them.
The chicken is as good as I've ever had moist and tender but also try the appiteizers my favorite being the fried jalapeƱo basket. The wait staff is very friendly and the best spot is the patio out front but it gets packed fast no liquor is served but if you want they'll charge $10 and you can "brown bag" it.
If you're ever in chattanooga it's a must you stop by Champys 526.E.ML King blvd (423) 752-9798 and have a 40' and some chicken.

After Work Quicky

Ha,Ha,got you again c'mon this post is not what some of ya'll are thinking about. After a long day at work and dealing with traffic I was in no mood for spending alot of time in the kitchen cooking. Bing!! a light bulb turned on in my head I remembered there were leftover ingredients from tacos I made and my imagination kicked in.
I threw some Doritos chips onto a plate then covered em with the leftover ground beef, chesse, picante sauce and jalapeño peppers and warmed it up in microwave. Next I covered this hot  goodness with sour cream and a quick, tasty and filling dinner was made in minutes.
So next time after a long day use your imagination and go into the kitchen for a quicky!
Until next time stay geeky and hungry my friends.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?..

Some of you may be too young to know but that's a line by the late John Belushi in the classic movie "Animal House" his history was a little off but his point was "It isn't over!"in my case I'm talking about grilling. The fall season is here and depending on where you live its getting chilly outside,so folks are putting up their lawn furniture and covering up their grills and getting ready for winter to come in but I say "Don't do it!"
This is the best time to keep the fire going, baseball is going into the playoffs,NFL and College football has started up and whats better than grilled food to go with the games? Its even good for non sports fans this fall all the action and geeky movies from the summer will be on DVD so grill up some stuff to eat as you watch em. Why not grill for your Halloween party and of course for Thanksgivings smoke or deep fry a turkey. One of my favorite memories is late fall in Detroit a buddy and I pushing snow aside of grill and deep fryer and running in and out of the house checking on the food during a Lions game.
C'mon people don't let a little chill in the air stop the party keep your grills and smokers going!
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry my friends.

Peanut butter,Burger time..?

If you've been following this blog for awhile you know I like to try new things and recently I got a chance to try something really outside the box. Cheeburger Cheeburger is a cool little restaurant located in downtown Chattanooga 138 Market St. Their motto is "Invent your own burgers,fries,shakes.." and they're not kidding if you can think it they can put it together even on a salad, yes they have salads like Cheeburger salad lol. There are some healthy choices too like salmon, veggie and turkey burgers.
The 1st time I went there I saw peanut butter as a topping option on the menu and thought "no way in hell" would I do that.My niece came for a visit and Cheeburger Cheeburger was on the list of places we wanted her to see and the peanut butter popped in my head.I ordered a cheese burger with peanut butter and bacon just to say at least I tried it and a Resse's Pieces milk shake to wash it down.Surprisingly the burger was great the peanut butter didn't over whelm the burger and it was a nice mix of taste and texture I will have it again or I'll think up some new crazy combo that's what makes this restaurant so fun.
So if you're ever in Chattanooga stop by Cheeburger Cheeburger and see what kinda combo you can come up with and stay hungry and geeky my friends.

Dinner in a Pie Pan

Here's another dish you can try on the grill that'll wow your family and friends and is easy to make.Paella is it's name and it's origin is from Valencia on the east coast of Spain but it's become popular in many different parts of the world. The main ingredients are rice vegetables and seafood and depending on the region Paella can have different types of the  main ingredients.Today I'm sharing my version of it but you can use the basic idea and add or subtract what you like.
Ingredients: 1 cup uncooked Spanish rice mix
1/2 Onion
1 Tomato
6 Large peeled shrimp
2 Skinless chicken thighs
1/2 Teaspoon paprika
1/4 Cup chicken broth
1 JalapeƱo pepper
Step1:Clean chicken thighs and season with black pepper and garlic powder then dice tomato, onion and chop the jalapeƱo pepper.
Step2:Place rice, chicken, shrimp, diced vegetables and broth in a disposable pie pan and sprinkle with paprika and olive oil then seal the pan in foil.

Step3:Place foil covered pan on grill for 30 minutes. You can serve one pan per person or one for two people depending on who you're cooking for.
I hope you and yours enjoy it until next time stay hungry and geeky my friends.

Grilled Pasta Salad

This time of year I know a lot of people will have their grills going with the usual hot dogs, burgers, ribs and so on,so I decided to share a recipe for a side dish you make on the grill along with your favorite meats and surprise your friends and family. The dish is a "grilled" tri-color pasta salad, yes I said grilled its me remember?just follow the easy steps trust me.
Ingredients : 1 box tri-color rotini pasta any brand but I use Barilla
1 bag shredded cheese "your choice"
1 large onion
1 bell pepper
1 red pepper
3 corn on the cobbs with husk still on
Soak the corn in water for at least 30 minutes then place on the grill cause they take longer to cook remember to leave husk on.When they're almost done brush your peppers and half of the onion with olive oil and place on grill. When your vegetables are done start the pasta.Boil 4-6 quarts of water with salt add pasta, stir occasionally should cook within 7-8 minutes. As pasta is cooking chop up your vegetables and take a knife and "peel" the ears of corn off the cobbs.
When the pasta is cooked drain it and place in a bowl mix in all the vegetables and shredded cheese and add a little olive oil then serve as side dish.
Leave me a comment if you try it and let me know what you and your family and friends thought.Until next time stay geeky and hungry my friends!

Respect Her "Geek"

Hello friends I was recently asked to write a post on fanboys connection with fan girls especially now with it being "con season".To sound like a grouchy old fanboy "back in my day there where almost no fan girls, but now a days almost just as many woman are talking, tweeting, blogging or podcasting about comics, video games and scifi movies and TV shows".I'm no expert but here's my attempt to help my fellow fanboys on  connecting and being respectful of our " sisters in fandom".
Thanks to certain TV shows and movies its become cool to be a geek/nerd and I'm sure there's a lot of "fake fanboys" as there are " fake fangirls".So when a female walks into your local comicbook store don't assume she's a fake or just buying something for her boyfriend or brother.Guys for God's sake don't just stare at her either it's rude and creepy.
When online and a woman pops up talking about a comic or video game or movie don't turn into "geek snob" and disrespect her opinion I'm sure there's someone out there that thinks they know more than you so respect her views and don't think you have to talk down to her just cause she's a female. Now if a fangirl responds to your YouTube,Blog post,Tweet or Friends you on Facebook don't automatically think she wants to "get with you" get over yourself player and just enjoy having a conversation with a fellow fan who happens to be a woman, you never know you might end up making a real friend.
Now that it's comicbook convention season and almost every city has one don't disrespect your "sister" fans remember how you may have been treated as a fanboy? just imagine what a lot of woman have to deal with being a "geek girl" so remember when you see a girl dressed as your favorite anime character or comicbook heroine keep your hands to yourself and respect her "Geek".
Until next time stay hungry and geeky my friends

Sweet Tee

Check the spelling I'm not talking about the beverage that's popular here in Chattanooga Sweet Tea but this is about some of my favorite t-shirts.
I know a lot of you have wondered "what's Charles favorite t-shirts?" So here we go!
Being a Green Lantern fan of course this will be the first shirt on the list,it's green with the GL lantern logo in the center people must be tired of seeing me in it by now lol.
Next up is Blue Lantern/Flash it's from the "Blackest Night" story line in Green Lantern comics the Flash for a brief moment was a blue lantern it's the Flash's logo on top of the blue lantern logo.I've had a lot of people asking "what's that symbol?"
Years ago my brother gave me this Voltron shirt for my birthday it has a cool worn look to it like I had it for way longer than I have I'm not a Voltron fan but I love this shirt for one my brother gave it to me and two someone always says "cool shirt" when I wear it.
This last shirt is controversial because I was sure I would get cussed out by my wife when I got it but she laughed and likes it I'm surprised by how many woman tell me they like it,what's that say about them...hhhmm any check it out and you decide would you yell at me if you saw me in this?

Until next time stay hungry and geeky my friends.

Geekiest Weekend Ever...And Tequila

The weekend of May 3rd to May 5th to me was the "geekiest weekend" ever it started with the opening of IronMan3 at the movies on May 3rd one of the most anticipated comicbook movies of this year.I had to work that day so a coworker and I planned to go right after work and meet our wives at the theater.IronMan3 in my opinion was the best of the 3 movies,I won't get into detail for those of you that for some reason haven't seen it yet "No Spoilers"
Saturday May 4th,hello "May the 4th be with you" it's a phrase that's said by all day by Star Wars nerds online and off.If that wasn't enough May 4th was also Free Comicbook Day! It's a "National Holiday" for geeks, comicbook company's big and small print a free copy of a book for that day and it's a great day for the industry cause it brings in folks that don't usually go to comicbook stores and it's nice to meet and talk comics with new comers and regulars
Sunday should have been a day of rest and recovery from the "geekfest" but it was Cinco de Mayo and so i had to take part.I went to a little restaurant in a town outside of Chattanooga called El Toril they had drink specials and great food,i had a few shots of tequila a deluxe burrito and made some new friends sitting at the bar and learned a new bar joke. All in all it was a full geeky, drunken weekend somehow i ended up in Alabama drinking moonshine and playing Battlefield on X-box but that's a story for another time.
So until then stay geeky and hungry my friends!!

Peaches & Cream...On the Grill

I know what you're thinking,"He's gone mad peaches and cream on the grill?" Trust me it's a great dessert for spring/summer that's easy to make and I'll share how to make it.
1st You get peaches that are not to ripe and soft cut them in half and remove the seed.
Step2:Put a stick of butter some sugar and cinnamon into a bowl and mash together, amount of sugar and cinnamon is up to you.
Step3:Place peaches on the grill with "cut side" facing up for 2-5 minutes then flip over until you get a nice charred look on face side.
Step4: With peaches facing up again scoop the butter/sugar/cinnamon mixture into where the seed once was then cover the grill for about 2 minutes to let mixture melt into and over peaches.
Step5:Place the peach while hot into bowl with 1 or 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and enjoy the mix of hot, sweet, cold and a little smokey taste.
If you try this and don't agree that it's one of the best things you've ever tasted you can find me and slap me in the face lol !
Until then stay Geeky and Hungry my friends.

Harrison Ford in Star Wars Ep. VII

According to sites such as Latino Review and ClevverMovies it's a done deal that actor Harrison Ford will once again play Han Solo in the up coming movie Star Wars Ep.7. Although neither Ford or Disney Studios will confirm it,from what is going around its happening no word on how much he'll be in the movie yet since they're still working on the script.
I will keep my eyes and ears open for any updates, until then stay geeky and hungry my friends!

IronMan3, Guardians of the Galaxy Spoiler Alert!!

Marvel Studios and Disney have done a great job with the "Marvel Heroes" movies and having all the movies connect to each other and lead up to the last summers Avengers movie.Seems the next movies will be along the same line, rumors are that the extra scene at end of Ironman 3 will have him wearing "Space armor" and flying off into space where he'll meet the Guardians of the Galaxy.
For those of you who don't know Guardians of the Galaxy are a small band of heroes who's main job is fighting Thanos, the villain revealed at the end of the Avengers movie.Making this more posable is the fact that Marvel has a new Guardians of the Galaxy comicbook coming out March 27th and writer Brian Bendis has Ironman joining the group, coincidence? I think not, this could be the start of Marvel/Disney's way of connecting the characters to the Avengers2 movie where Thanos will most likely be the villain.Of course none of this is confirmed so we'll have to wait and see the extra scene at the end of Ironman3 out this May to get a hint, until then stay geeky and hungry my friends

New Iron Man 3 Poster

Marvel Studios has released a new poster for the upcoming movie Ironman 3 and from the looks of it it's basically telling us that the story is mainly about the downfall of Tony Stark aka Ironman, just as the previous trailers have suggested.I for one can't wait to see how it turns out, release date is May 2013,stay geeky and hungry my friends!
