The Stormtrooper is a...insert racist slang here..

This past Thanksgiving weekend  was going so good the Detroit  Lions beat the Bears which is always a good thing,my wife and I had a great dinner at our friends house and then there was the release of the Star Wars trailer for episode VII online.I was on cloud 9 wondering how could this weekend get any better.
I was so giddy from that quick tease of a trailer especially seeing the X-Wings flying low over water and then the Millennium Falcon coming on screen made me feel like a kid again! Then of course someone had to try and spoil the fun alot of us were having by being  small minded racist by being upset that the trailer starts off with actor John Boyega who is black pops up in a stormtrooper outfit. These so called fans went nuts online saying crap about how could a stormtrooper be black and throwing the "N" word around . I'm at the age where I'm not often surprised by racist comments from people but when it comes from people who claim to be not only scifi fans but Star Wars fans this really pissed me off.So according to these idiots a long time ago in a galaxy fa,far away  there can be 7ft tall walking "hair balls" that can fly space ships,a "fish" Admiral and a  feminine android come on some of ya'll know what I'm talking bout with that last one but a black man in a stormtrooper outfit no way is that possible!
1st off has anyone seen stormtroopers with their  helmets off since the Clone Wars to know none of em were black?Oh by the way Jengo Fett who the original  troopers were cloned from wasn't white or did you idiots forget that.Another thing who says John Boyega character is even a stormtrooper we don't know what part of the movie that scene from the trailer takes place and if he is so what! I guess those so called fans also forgot that at one point Han Solo and Luke Skywalker both wore stormtrooper outfits.
Deep down I refuse to believe that any of those ignorant comments came from true Star Wars fans and I won't let em affect my enjoyment of that trailer that I'll probably watch again for the 10th time,I just needed to get that off my chest!
So until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

Starring as Luke Cage aka Power Man is....

Marvel has four shows exclusively on Netflix that will tie in to the rest of their live action universe starting in 2015 and one of them being "Luke Cage" who's also known as Power Man in the comics is a member of Heroes for Hire and a member of the Avengers off and on.When this show was announced everyone started throwing names out there as to who should play him from Terry Crews from "The Expendables" and "Everyone Hates Chris"  Michael Jai White from movies like "Blood and Bones","Black Dynamite" to even The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson. When just before the New York City ComicCon kicks off on October 9th Marvel announced that the lead role will go to Dule' Hill from the show "Psych".I'm sure alot of you are like "say what?" like I 1st did but before everyone goes into a fanboy/fangirl rage relax and think about it Marvel hasn't steered us wrong with casting their characters atleast in my opinion.
So I'm holding off judgement until I see the actual show in 2015.He has along time to get pumped up and he is a pretty good actor.
So until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich

I've been racking my brain for something new to make in the kitchen or on the grill then BAM! There it was, scrolling down my Instagram feed I saw a picture of Oreo ice cream sandwich.
On a Saturday night of drinking I decided to try to make it as a late night snack . It's easy to make you just need a pack of Oreos, a jar of peanut butter and ice cream, I went with double chocolate chip ice cream. First step is to separate the cookie and scrape the creme off the inside  2nd spread peanut butter where the creme was on the cookie. The last step is to put a small scoop of ice cream on the other half of the cookie.Last put it all back together and enjoy! Trust me you'll love the combo of taste so next time you're in the mood for cookies and ice cream but with a twist try it, it's cheap and easy to make.
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

Sin City:A Dame to Kill For

With the movie Sin City A Dame to Kill For coming out this weekend I decided to go through my long box of comics to find the series it's based on its a noir style story about lost love, betrayal, revenge and a whole lot of violence by the legendary Frank Miller. They were right there all of the 6 issues in their bags since I 1st bought them back in 1993.I was planning on re reading the series before I see the movie but decided against it because it's been so long since I read it I've forgotten alot of what happened so I'd like to be surprised when I watch the movie.
If you've see the 1st movie and read the 1st series you know it was a panel for panel, word for word adaptation from the comic. That made it fun to watch but then I knew what was coming next, that's why I put these comics back cause I'm sure this movie will be the same way and I'd like to watch it without knowing every little thing that's going to happen.I have to warn you yes its a "comicbook movie" but no one's flying around in tights and there's no talking raccoon or tree but I think you should still check it out but its not everyone's cup of tea but  I'll definitely will be checking it out.
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

The Real Expendables

The Expendables movie series is very popular with a simple formula, old action actors, over the top action, corny one liners and a simple story and people love it . I admit I liked the 1st one the 2nd not so much and recently gave part 3 a chance.Less than half way through I had to turn it off my brain couldn't take it don't get me wrong I love a good "turn your mind off summer movie" cough cough any Michael Bay movie, but but I could only take so much of this movie. Then I tried a new animated movie from DC called Batman : Assault on Arkham by Jay Oliva.
Batman might be in the title but this movie is more a Suicide Squad story. Those of you who don't know the Suicide Squad is a group of criminals the government aka Amanda Waller puts together and send on missions that's "off the books".The members of this squad include the likes of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Frost and King Shark. The movie is rated PG-13 but trust me it's no kids cartoon, racy language and a scene between Harley and Deadshot that's more "R" rated. With that said I highly recommend you buy this dvd when it comes out August 12th, great story, characters, they are drawn as their version from the Arkham video game series and the chemistry between the members of the squad was very we done. This dvd will be in my top 5 rotation easily DC has done another great job with their animated dvds and if Sylvester Stallone wants to make another Expendables movie I hope he watches this 1st lol.
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

Throwback Thursday : A Death in the Family

One of the most shocking and memorable stories in Batman history by writer Jim Starlin and artist Jim Aparo. The story which took place from issues of Batman 426 to 429 in 1988 was about the death of the 2nd Robin Jason Todd.
The historic part was the way this death came about DC comics asked fans to call one phone number for him to live and another number for him to die.The company actually had 2 copies ready depending on how the vote came out.His death got more votes mainly cause Jason Todd's character rubbed alot of fans the wrong way.One of the most shocking scenes in comics was the panels showing the Joker beating him with a crow bar, then the whole page spread of Batman carrying a lifeless bloody body of Robin in his arms.
Many years later DC found a way to bring Jason Todd back to life. His resurrection does not take away from the fact "A Death in the Family" is still a great story that still holds up to this day.

Throwback Thursday : Mad Love

Mad Love is a 64 page special from the Batman Adventures team of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm in 1994.This was basically a Harley Quinn origin story we get a quick look at her in college studying at the psychology department to working at Arkham where she 1st met the Joker.Harleen Quinzel "her real name" started doing sessions with Joker in hopes of writing a best selling book on him.Instead the Joker turned the table on her and she fell for him and eventually takes on the image of Harley that we all know and love and broke him out of Arkham.
I won't go into more details of the story but like the Batman Adventures animated series it's a great mix of drama, humor and action with underlying themes of obsession and abusive relationships. Harley Quinn has gone on to become one of the most popular DC characters over the years from comicbooks to cosplayers and even a cameo on the tv series Arrow.Mad Love is one of the stories that started it all.

Bacon + Cookie = ?

Yes kids Uncle Charlie said bacon + cookie, c'mon everyone knows bacon makes everything better.I decided to try my hand at baking cookies one night and of course had to put my own crazy twist on it.
I picked up a box of Betty Crocker's Reeses peanut butter, chocolate chunk mix, sounds great right? Then my whacky mind got to work and thought "Bacon!"I put together the mix as directed on the box then fried some bacon lightly then chopped em up.The bacon pieces were dropped into the bowl of cookie mix and blended together. I spooned the mix onto a cookie sheet and baked for 10 minutes. To my surprise the cookies came out great and that's not just my opinion two other people said the same thing without a gun to their heads.
So next time you're in the mood to bake cookies think outside the"cookie cutter" there's no guarantee it'll come out good but there's only one way to find out take a chance.
So until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry!

Batman: The Killing Joke

This year we celebrate Batman's 75th anniversary and for my little part I decided to look back at some of my favorite Batman stories.Today im talking about Batman:The Killing Joke which for most comicbook fans goes down as one of the best because to this day the affects of this book is still being felt. The graphic novel 1st came out in 1988 by writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland.1st off it's a Alan Moore story so you know its going to be deep and good and Brian Bolland art is so good and so much detail he can go pages without any dialog and yet you can tell whats going on and how people feel, the last page is still being talked about but we'll get back to that.
The story starts out with the Joker once again escaping Arkham Asylum and as Batman hunts for him we get a "possible" origin story of the Joker. We don't get his real name but it's a sad touching story that makes you feel bad for the man who would become the Joker. The most shocking part of this story is what happens to Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl and daughter of commissioner Jim Gordon this event changes her character and has effects on the DC universe for years to come. The whole story has very disturbing and psychological parts to it and to this day people are still debating what they think happened on the last few panels. If you can find a copy of this story let me know what you think happened.
Until next time stay geeky and hungry my friends.

Throwback Thursday. Batman:Birth of the Demon

My friend Kai Charles blog fictionstateofmind.blogspot.com has been doing post about Batman all this month since the "Dark Knight" turns 75 this year and it's inspired me to do the same. As part of my Throwback Thursday series i'll start with "Birth of the Demon".The graphic novel came out in 1992 by writer Dennis O'Neil, artist Norm Breyfogle and letterer Ken Bruzenak.
Basically this is Ra's al Ghul origin story.Batman finds a centuries old manuscript written in a language that no longer exist but using Bruce Wayne's money he gets experts and computers to translate it.We get to see Ra's from birth through his life as a young doctor to how he became and got the name Ra's al Ghul which loosely translated means "Head of the Demon ". As with most Batman villains you'll feel sympathy for him as you see what happened to him.
I highly recommend you pick up this graphic novel, great story, art and you get to understand Ra's a little more.
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

Free Comics for Everyone

You heard me right boys and girls its free Comicbooks for everyone on Saturday May 3rd cause is "Free Comicbook Day" at book stores everywhere. Publishers from DC and Marvel to independent companies put out at least one comic that's available for free evey year on this day. It's a day comicbook lovers look forward to cause you get a chance to check out books you may not pick up otherwise. Bookstores love this day cause it's a chance to showcase their store to potential new customers. "F.C.B.D." is not exclusive to just the "nerd community" everyone is encouraged to go to their local comicbook store and see what the fuss is about. Stores will have specials going on besides the selected free comics like sales on other comics, t-shirts, figures some stores have cosplayers (folks dressed in hero/villain costumes) and even artist and writers doing book signings.
If you haven't been to a comicbook store in awhile or ever this is a good day to check it out, once I met lady with her son at a store on F.C.B.D.who didn't know comicbook stores still existed, yes kids there are people out there like that now take a minute to catch your breath. Movie companies have caught on because lately theres always a comicbook movie coming out on the same weekend this time its Amazing Spider-man 2 so you can have fun at a few comicbook stores then go see a comicbook movie afterwards make a "geeky" day of it.Oh yes I said stores you can go to as many stores to get free comics its kinda like Halloween but you don't have to be dressed up unless you want to.
When I lived in Detroit I looked forward to this day to take my nieces and nephews and they always had a great time.My friends this Saturday take your family, friends, or just yourself and enjoy this day you might find yourself getting into comics again and that's a good thing.
Until next time stay geeky and hungry my friends.

C'mon DC really?

I love me some DC comics related stuff from comics to movies, animated dvds and video games except some of the "New 52" stuff and that movie we don't speak of...thanks Ryan Reynolds.
The Christopher Nolan Batman movies where brilliant, the animated DVDs are classic and dissipate what some say the "Man of Steel" movie was good I seen a classic Superman story based on "Birthright" and seen a Superman fight like in the comics and cartoons even though folks bitch about that part but I wont get into that. The last few years Marvel movies have been brilliant "cough cough" Ironman3... they planned it out so they interact with each other and made sense. When Avengers came out which was my geeky dream come true it made sense.
After the success of Avengers at the box office DC seem to panic and rush to copy it but going by it the wrong way. Marvel has a plan going past 2018 which you can see in the movies but DC just suddenly decided it's doing a JLA movie and the Man of Steel sequel became "Superman vs Batman" and as time went on its slowly turning into a "Justice League" movie we get updates monthly.Ben Affleck as Batman,Gal Gatdot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and geeks minds blew up! including mine, then a Flash cameo was announced so now the Superman squeal was becoming a JLA movie because of the success of the Avengers movie. Marvel did a "poker move" by saying that Captain America 3 would open the same weekend as Superman vs Batman and once again DC flinch, after the success of Captain America : Winter Soldier which had  great chemistry with Capt and Falcon a black character DC just announced that stage actor Ray Fisher  will play Cyborg a popular black character in the DC comics and animated series in the upcoming movie...hhmmm it just sounds despite to me everytime I hear more about this movie the more disappointed I feel, its starting to sound like that "Batman and Robin" movie crammed with characters or that Green Lantern movie we don't speak of trying to put too much into one movie.
Ok im done ranting I wish DC luck with this movie and I'll just enjoy the cartoons on Netflix, DVDs, video games like Injustice, the Batman "Arkham" games and tv shows like Arrow and upcoming Flash. I'm getting a bad vibe from this supposed to be Superman squeal.
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry

Who needs stinking TV...

Don't get me wrong I'm no "tv snob" there are certain shows on tv that are my "must see" shows but lately I've found more stuff that interest me on YouTube. So below is a list of the channels I like on YouTube and recommend for you guys to check out.
For my geeky news on a daily basis I watch Machinima, DC entertainment and Nerdist news, when it comes to reviews of movies, comics and scifi shows you can't go wrong with Emergency Awsome, Comicbookgirl 19 and the very funny Blacknerd Comedy. My foodie needs are met by My Drunken Kitchen on MyHarto channel and the name of the show says it all.Pairings the Series is a funny series by Ed Robinson about a nerd who loves to cook and is looking for love. When you need ideas for cool and crazy drinks check out Tipys Bartender.
Collage Dem is a group of guys from the Bahamas who do very funny skits and you don't have to be from the islands to understand their comedy. The SuperKnocked Up channel has a series about a super hero and super villain that have a one night stand and now have to deal with the fact that the villain is pregnant. Once a week the creator of the series Jeff Burns has a Google hang out to discuss the geeky questions of the week.I recently was introduced to Bravest Warriors a cartoon series thats crazy as hell and has me saying things like "gas powered stick" and "bathroom bros" for no reason.
So next time you can't find anything good on tv pull up YouTube and give the cat videos a break and give a few of these channels a look see, you might find one or two that you'll make "must see" shows.
Until next time my friends stay geeky and hungry.

Throwback Thursday: Daredevil 200

"Redemption" story by Danny O'Neil art by William Johnson and cover by John Byrne.
After a run in with the ninja clan "The Hand" and hitman Bullseye in Japan in pervious issues Matt Murdock returns to New York with a broken arm and hell bent on hunting down Bullseye who also has returned and has some kind of "psyhic link" with Daredevil after the events in Japan. Daredevil jumps right into training, dealing with the death of his love Elektra and looking for Bullseye the man who killed her.Black Widow stops by to try to talk Matt down cause he's determined to put Bullseye "down" for good.
While searching for Bullseye Matt has a flashback to a time when he was a kid that he forgot about, when he found out his dad had taking a gig as a wrestler with the name "Red Devil".The sequence with his dad talking to young Matt Murdock was very touching. The big battle with Bullseye was well done and Daredevil does redeem himself. ...spoilers. If you get a chance pick this back issue up and you don't have to know Daredevil's whole history to understand and enjoy this story.
Until next time stay geeky and hungry my friends.
